Performing Qadha Salah at Tahajjud Time Will Garner its Rewards

Question:

If a person performs his life-long Qadha Salahs (missed prayers) at Tahajjud time, will he acquire the rewards of Tahajjud?

Answer:

One will acquire the rewards of Tahajjud by performing his life-long Qadha Salahs at Tahajjud time.[i]
It is mentioned in ‘Shami’:

It is mentioned in ‘Fatawa Haqqaniyah’:

“If a person wakes up after sleeping and perform his Qadha Salahs, then according to some jurist, this will also be considered ‘Tahajjud’.

(Fatawa Haqqaniyyah Vol.3 Pg.260)

And Allah knows best.

Translator’s notes:

  1. Based on this, for those who have due qadha prayers of a past life of negligence and now have a habit of performing Tahajjud, should intend Qadha Prayer instead of Tahajjud, as Fardh is more important than nawafil. والله اعلم
  2. One must only intend his qadha prayer, for the qadha to be considered valid. The rewards of Tahajjud will be gained due to the time in which it is being performed.

[i] This is based on the generality of the hadith, “Whatever is after the Esha prayer is from the ‘Night (prayer).”والله اعلم
