Women in front of Peers or Shaikhs

Question:
Is it allowed for women to become mureeds of a peer of tariqah (shaikh of tasawwuf)? Will the peer then become her mahram?
Answer: حامدا ومصليا ومسلما

The meaning of being a mureed (disciple) of someone is to rectify one’s inner self. Like how students connect themselves to teachers for learning purposes. Rectifying one’s inner self in necessary for both males and females. Therefore it is also permissible for a woman to become a mureed.  However, becoming a mureed does not cause a person to become a mahram. It is a serious sin for a woman to come in front of a shaikh simply because she is his mureed. If the shaikh follows the Sunnah he himself will not allow this. Shariah comes first. To go against the laws of Shariah is total deviation and misguidance. May Allah protect us from all such things.

And Allah knows best.
