The Ruling of Praying Salah whilst Wearing a Leather Cap or Belt

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Skin [of animals] becomes purified in two cases.

  1. The skin of animals who have been slaughtered in accordance with the Shari’ah.
  2. That skin, which is from a dead animal, however, it has been tanned. Meaning the impurity has been removed using salts, a chemical substance, or something else.

In these two cases, the skin becomes pure.  The use of something made from it becomes permissible.  There is only an exception in (the skin of) pigs due to it being impure and that of humans due to their nobility.

Therefore, the things made of leather e.g. caps, belts, etc. which are available in the market, will be regarded as pure.  Performing salah wearing them would be correct unless one has a predominant belief that the item is made of pigskin.
