Performing Ṣalāh after Smoking Marijuana

Question:

Zaid smoked marijuana and ganja after taking a ritual bath (ghusl). He, then performed ṣalāh with this ghusl. Is his ṣalāh valid and accepted?

Answer:

It is not permissible to use marijuana or any other type of intoxicant. If someone becomes intoxicated by using marijuana and his intellect is lost, then his wudhū’ breaks. Without a fresh wudhū’, his ṣalāh will not be valid. If he used a very small amount by which he did not become intoxicated, the wudhū’ does not break.

As far as the ṣalāh being accepted by Allāh is concerned, then this is based on Allāh’s will. Nonetheless, it is known from ḥadīths that ʿebādah (worship) is not accepted after consuming ḥarām (prohibited) items. Hence, there is a possibility that his ʿebādah will not be accepted. Therefore, one should totally refrain from consuming intoxicants.
