Revive the Sunnah Duas in Your Nawafil Salah

A Step Closer To Allah

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “If anyone of you leads the people in the prayer, he should shorten it for amongst them are the weak, the sick and the old; and if anyone among you prays alone then he may prolong (the prayer) as much as he wishes.”[Bukhari#703]

Therefore, the fuqaha sate that the Imam should suffice on the short Tasbeehaat in Ruku, Qawmah, Sajdah and Jalsah. However, what we overlook is that these long beautiful azkaar were recited by the Messenger (ﷺ).

So when should we recite them?

Allamah Haskafi says that these Masnoon Duas are to be recited in any Nafl prayer. This would include the Sunnah Muakkadah prayers as well. Allamah Ibn Abideen Shaami adds that one may recite them when performing his/her Fardh prayers alone or in a small congregation who would not mind.
