The Ambiyaa (Prophets عليهم السلام) are معصوم yet we see that the Messenger of Allah (صلي الله عليه و سلم) used to seek forgiveness over 70 times in a sitting. Some narrations have 100 times. This is to show that الاستغفار was a constant habit of the Messenger of Allah (صلي الله عليه و سلم).

The Sahabah are محفوظ yet we see that they also sought forgiveness abundantly.

The habit of the Awliyaa is to seek Allah’s forgiveness after their good deeds, which they are constantly performing.

We on the other hand, are drowned in sin and the though of الاستغفار (begging Allah to forgive us) does not even pass our minds.
