The Ruling of the IUD String in the Ghusl of Menses

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Sometimes due to weakness or some other reason, the female doctor places an IUD (Copper T) which is in the shape of a “T” in the womb of women. There is usually a silken wire attached to the IUD which hangs outside the private parts. By putting this she is not able to become pregnant. However, her menses continues to come every month. In this case, for the ghusl of haidh (menses) to be correct, the woman must wash the part of the IUD cord which is hanging out of the private part. When this is cleaned thoroughly the shari ghusl will be attained. Without this, the woman will remain unclean.
