Is there any Basis for the Dua-e-Ganjul Arsh?

Question: How is it to read the ‘Dua-e-Ganjul Arsh’ from among the books of litanies (wazaa-if)? Is it okay or not?

باسمه سحانه تعالى

Answer: وبالله التوفيق

There are no impermissible words in the Dua-e-Ganjul Arsh. There is no problem in reading it, if one wishes. However, there is no basis for the virtues which are written for it.

Some places such virtues of the Dua-e-Ganjul Arsh, and ‘Ahd Naamah etc. are written, for instance, by reading these duas all of one’s affairs will be completed, an expanse in sustenance will be acquired, there will be benefits of the Deen and Dunyaa, difficulties will be solved, all sicknesses will be cured, and then these virtues are ascribed to the Prophet ﷺ. But neither are these virtues established from the Prophet ﷺ, the Khulafaa Rashideen, the Tabi’een, the Tabe’ Tabi’een nor the Mujtahideen Imams. (The words of) these duas are not narrated from the Prophet ﷺ either. Rather all these virtues have been fabricated by people.

This is why Hadhrat Thanvi said concerning these duas and virtues in “Behishti Zewar’ (10/52), “They are all fabricated. Therefore, it is not proper to recite them believing that they have been narrated from the ‘Leader of the two Worlds ﷺ’, or the Sahabah Kiraam رضوان الله عليهم or the Mujtahideen Imams. It is also not proper to believe that their virtues have been narrated (from the Prophet ﷺ or Salaf).”
