Laws of Surah Baqarah V.189

“They ask you about the new moons. Say: They are indicative of time for the people, and of the Hajj. It is not righteousness that you come into your houses from their backs, but righteousness is that one fears Allah. So come into houses through their doors; and fear Allah so that you may be successful.” (189)

Ruling: Allah mentions that the changing stages of the moon are so that we can ascertain the times of our acts of worship and transactions like zakat, sawm, hajj, iddah, debt etc. The lunar calendar was chosen as the preferred time telling table for this nation, due to it being equally applicable in identifying time for all peoples, whether they be from jungles, islands, deserts, urban or rural areas. The solar calendar requires calculations which may not be accessible to all humans equally, therefore, the lunar calendar was chosen, even though it would be permissible to use the solar calendar for telling time as Allah mentions in surah Israa. It is fard kifaaya and rewarding to use the lunar calendar. (Maarif Al Quran V1 pg 482)

Ruling: One custom of the days of ignorance is that when one entered ihram, then left his home, if he had to return home, he would not enter from the front door of his house, but rather from a hole he would make in the back of the house. This was considered a virtuous and good thing to do. Allah commands to stop this practice and to enter the houses from the front doors in the state of ihram. (Maarif Al Quran V1 pg 478)

Ruling: From this injunction, we also learn that it is detestable and prohibited to consider a permissible act to be an act of virtue, and to introduce it into the religion. Doing such is considered an innovation and a bidaa. (Tafsir Uthmani V1 pg 201)
