We Wait

With bated breath and trembling hearts, we wait
With eyes uplifted like cupped palms, we wait
With yearning equal to the vast sea, we wait
With hope in a trembling heart, we wait
You are the fierce fire before whom sin withers
You are the days filled with sympathy for the poor
You are the calm nights after the violent storm
You are the joy of iftar and the blessing of sahur
In you, desires wither and the cursed one is chained
In you, we are renewed like crops before the rain
