Question:

When a man or woman becomes sick, the Peer Sahib says that his or her name is very bad, they will be cured by changing their names. Ignorant people believe this and change their names. Is this established or is it shirk?

Answer:

Changing names, which are contrary to Shariah, has been established in the noble Hadith. Changing names, which are in accordance to Shariah, as a remedy for bodily sicknesses is not established.
