TAQWA

By: Hazrat Aqdas, Baqiyyatul Akaabir, Sultanul Aarefeen, Shaikhul Mashaaikh,

Faqeehul Asr, Mufti Ahmed Saheb Khanpuri حفظه الله.

When we hear the word taqwa we become frightened. We think this is too hard. However that is not the case.

Taqwa in a nutshell is: to refrain from disobeying Allah.

To perform tahajjud night long is not the name of taqwa. To fast for 12 months is not the name of taqwa. Excessive e’baadah is not the name of taqwa.

Taqwa is to prevent oneself from disobeying Allah.

To perform righteous deeds is very easy. However to refrain from sins is very important. You would see on blessed nights, that those people who usually do not attend the masjid, would flood the first row in such a manner that those who usually sit there on a daily basis, would not find a spot. These people would exert themselves in e’baadat from maghrib until half of the night passes. In the month of Ramadhan, they will also indulge themselves in e’baadah.

It is very simple to perform a few nawaafil, indulge oneself in e’baadah and perform righteous deeds with a little intention.

However to refrain from disobeying Allah is the primary action.
