Question:

Is it permissible to give many people the fidyah of one salah or should it only be given to one person? Similarly should the fidyah of many salahs and fasts be given to many poor people or can one poor person be given? Is it permissible to give the value of wheat?

Answer: حامدا و مصليا

The fidyah of one salah should only be given to one [poor] person alone, and it should not be distributed among many [poor] people.

لو ادى الفقير اقل من نصف صاع لم يجز. (در مختار ج1 ص768)

However, the fidyah of many salahs can be given to one [poor] person. لو اعطى الكل جاز.

Similarly, it is permissible to give the fidyah of many fast to one [poor] person.

( ويجوز إعطاء فدية صلوات ) وصيام أيام ونحوها ( لواحد ) من الفقراء ( جملة). مراقي الفلاح ص255

It is not permissible to give the fidyah of one fast to many [poor] people.

It is permissible to give the value of wheat etc. Rather it is best.

قال الشامي ج1 ص766 تحت قول الدر ( نصف صاع من بر ) أي أو من دقيقه أو سويقه أو صاع تمر أو زبيب أو شعير أو قيمته وهي أفضل عندنا لإسراعها لسد حاجة الفقير.
