A married man who fell in love with another woman asked the following to Hakimul Ummah Hazrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (عليه الرحمة)

Question:

I am in love with a woman and I am totally confused over this love. Both my Deen and dunya is being destroyed. Please inform me of its remedy.

[Disciple]

Answer: 

Immediately cut all ties from the woman you have fallen in love with and go away very far from her. Both physical and mental distance is imperative.

Physical distance is that you should not talk to her, let her voice fall into your ears, see her nor hear her mentioned by anyone else.

Mental distance is that you should not intentionally think about her. If a though of her comes into your mind/heart distract your mind by busying yourself in some work.

Keep on praying to Allah. Busy yourself in zikr even if your heart does not desire to do such. Also remember death and what will come after death. Thereafter inform me of your condition.

Condition:

All praise is due to Allah. The love for that woman has started to decrease.

Allah willing there will be more benefit.

Condition:

The love for that woman has reduced significantly and the love for my wife has increased. However her love has not completely left my heart. Whenever a though of her comes, there is  a pain in my heart. Hazrat, please make dua that this effect also goes away.

Tahqeeq:

The remedy is this that you stay so far away that she does not come in front of you. Then this condition will not remain. If there is a very faint inclination then that is not harmful.
