Question:

Is a woman allowed to clip her nails and remove the hair of her underarms and private parts in the state of haidh (menses) and nifaas (post natal bleeding)?

Answer: حامدا ومصليا ومسلما

It is permissible to clip ones nails and remove the hairs of ones armpit and private parts in the state of haidh (menstrual period) and nifaas (postnatal bleeding). However, it is makrooh to do such in the state of janabah, because its ritual impurity can be removed simply by a ghusl (ritual bath). On the other hand the ritual impurity of haidh and nifas cannot be removed by ghusl and the period of haidh and nifaas is long. Moreover the removal of these things (nails and hairs) is mustahab every week.

الأفضل أن يقلم أظفاره ويحفي شاربه ويحلق عانته وينظف بدنه بالاغتسال في كل أسبوع مرة فإن لم يفعل ففي كل خمسة عشر يوما ولا يعذر في تركه وراء الأربعين فالأسبوع هو الأفضل والخمسة عشر الأوسط والأربعون الأبعد ولا عذر فيما وراء الأربعين ويستحق الوعيد كذا في القنية
