Hazrat Maulana Mufti Muhammad Hasan Saheb (عليه الرحمة), who was a beloved khalifah of Hazrat Hakeemul Ummat Maulana Muhammad Ashraf Ali Thanvi (عليه الرحمة) and the founder of Jamea Ashrafiyah in Amritsar, India and then Lahore, Pakistan had to get his foot amputated. So the doctors said they would administer anesthesia to numb the feeling, he said, there is no need for it.

When they were prepared to cut his leg, he engrossed himself in zikr and he did not feel a thing even though anesthesia was not administered.
