Sayyidina Ibn Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him) said, “It (that which comes out of the male private), is Mani, Madhi, and Wadi. In the case of Madhi and Wadi, one will wash their private and make wudhu. However, in the case of Mani one must take a ghusl.” Narrated by Tahawi with a Hasan chain of narrators. (Atharus Sunan 1:16)
In the commentary on this athar, the author states: …The words of a Sahabi are a legal proof according to us when they are not negated by a Marfu’ hadith. This report is a clear proof that Madhi and Wadi break wudhu…
(Taken from I’alaaus Sunan 1:140, Hadith #90)
What is Wadi? Wadi is a liquid that comes out after, or sometimes before, urinating. This fluid may be thick or thin, yellowish or dingy looking. One does not have to take a ghusl because of it. This is because Wadi is the remains of urine. One will merely make isntinjah and wudhu.
And Allah knows best.
