Queston:

A man has saved thousands of dollars. A year has also passed while owning it. However he does not have a house, furniture and is not married as yet. He has saved the money for these necessities. Is zakat fardh on him or not?

Answer: حامدا ومصليا ومسلما

Zakat is fardh on him. However if he had bought the materials to build the house and its furniture before the (zakatable) year ended, zakat would not had been fardh on him. [i]
