Question:

Is it permissible to attach gems and flowers on a burqaʿ? Is it permissible to attach a collar to the neck? Is it permissible to sew a burqaʿ like a coat? Is in necessary to wear gloves with a burqaʿ? What should the colour of the burqaʿ be?

Answer: وبالله التوفيق

The female Ṣaḥābiyāt used to wear black coloured jilbābs. From this, it is known that it is best for the colour of the burqaʿ to be black. It should not have any gems or flowers on it. This is more befitting. If there is no fear of fitnah then it is not binding to wear gloves or socks because the palms and feet are not part of the satr. However, if there is a fear of fitnah, then it is best to wear gloves and socks.

وأخرج عبدالرزاق وجماعة عن أم سلمة قالت : لما نزلت هذه الآية يدنين عليهن من جلابيبهن خرج نساء الأنصار كان على رؤوسهن الغربان من السكينة وعليهن أكسية سود يلبسنها. (روح المعاني 22:128)

والمرط من أكيسة سود. (مسند أحمد بن حنبل 6:199 ، رقم 24886 ، مصنف عبد الرزاق المجلس العلمي 2:32 ، رقم 2377)

وأما النظر إلى الأجنبيات فنقول يجوز النظر إلى مواضع الزينة الظاهرة منهن وذلك الوجه والكف في ظاهر الرواية كذا في الذخيرة وإن غلب على ظنه أنه يشتهي فهو حرام. (هندية الباب الثامن فيما يحل للرجل النظر اليه … زكريا قديم 5:32 ، جديد 5:381)
