They do not play a role in determining whether the blood is <em>\u1e25ay\u1e0d<\/em> or <em>isti\u1e25\u0101\u1e0dah<\/em>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u1e24ay\u1e0d<\/em> and <em>Isti\u1e25\u0101\u1e0dah<\/em> are defined based on the rulings mentioned by the <em>fuqah\u0101\u2019<\/em> and <strong>NOT<\/strong> modern medicine.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>The Definition of \u1e24ay\u1e0d <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>Literal Definition: \u00a0<\/strong>To flow.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">\u00a0Thus, the term <em>\u1e25ay\u1e0d<\/em> is used for menstruation due to the flowing of blood at a specific time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>Shar\u02bf\u012b Definition:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">There are two ways <em>\u1e25ay\u1e0d<\/em> can be defined in the <em>Shar\u02bf\u012bah<\/em>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">It is a <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>state of ritual impurity<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><em>\u1e24ay\u1e0d<\/em> is a legal obstacle which prevents a woman from fulfilling such acts of worship which require <em>\u1e6dah\u0101rah<\/em> (purity), such as: <em>\u1e62al\u0101h<\/em>, recitation of the <em>Qur\u2019\u0101n<\/em>, fasting, entering the <em>Majid<\/em>, sexual Intercourse, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\" start=\"2\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">It\u00a0is a <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>physical impurity<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><em>\u1e24ay\u1e0d<\/em> is blood which flows from the [woman\u2019s] womb and exits from the <em>farj d\u0101khil<\/em> (vaginal opening), even if it is legal (<em>\u1e25ukman<\/em>) blood without childbirth.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>\u201cBlood which flows from the [woman\u2019s] womb\u201d excludes:<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><em>Isti\u1e25\u0101\u1e0dah<\/em>.<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Nosebleed and blood from wounds.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Blood from the rectum.<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Blood seen by a girl below the age of 9 lunar years (Solar calendar: 8 years, 8 months, 3 weeks and 5 days.)<a href=\"#_ftn3\" name=\"_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Blood which was seen by a <em>nufas\u0101\u2019<\/em> (a woman in the state of <em>nif\u0101s<\/em>) before childbirth.<a href=\"#_ftn4\" name=\"_ftnref4\">[4]<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Blood seen by animals (hyena, rabbits and bats).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Blood seen by a <em>Khunth\u0101 Mushkil<\/em> (an uncategorized hermaphrodite).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.com\/the-rulings-regarding-the-khuntha-hermaphrodite\/\">here<\/a>\u00a0for details regarding the Khunth\u0101 Mushkil.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>\u201cExits from the <em>farj d\u0101khil\u201d <\/em><\/strong>excludes:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">The internal flow of blood which does not exit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">For instance, a woman feels the blood flowing down to the <em>farj d\u0101khil<\/em> but it does not exit. Therefore, it will not be <em>\u1e25ay\u1e0d<\/em>. [<em>\u1e92\u0101hir Riw\u0101yah<\/em>&#8211; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>The <em>fatw\u0101<\/em> is on this opinion<\/strong>.<\/span>]<a href=\"#_ftn5\" name=\"_ftnref5\">[5]<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>Even if it is legal (<em>\u1e25ukman<\/em>) blood includes:<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">All colours other than pure white.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><em>\u1e6cuhr Mutakhallil<\/em>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong><u>Example:<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle; text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">A woman sees blood for 3 days.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">She does not bleed on day 4-6.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">She sees blood on day 7.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">The <em>\u1e6duhr mutkhallil<\/em>, i.e., the days of purity (days 4-6) in between the two bleedings are considered as days of bleeding legally.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Therefore, the rulings of <em>\u1e25ay\u1e0d<\/em> apply to those days.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>\u201cWithout childbirth\u201d excludes<\/strong>:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">\u00a0<em>Nif\u0101s<\/em>&#8211; font-size: 10pt;\"><em>Hazrat<\/em> \u02bf\u0100\u2019ishah narrates that <em>Hazrat<\/em> F\u0101\u1e6dimah bint Ab\u012b \u1e24ubaysh said to Allah&#8217;s Messenger \ufdfa, &#8220;O Allah&#8217;s Messenger \ufdfa! I do not become clean (from bleeding). Shall I leave out <em>\u1e63al\u0101h<\/em>?&#8221; Allah&#8217;s Messenger \ufdfa replied: &#8220;This is a vein that has been ruptured; it is not menses. So, when the days of your menses begins, leave out <em>\u1e63al\u0101h<\/em> and when this period has finished wash the blood off your body and pray <em>\u1e63al\u0101h<\/em>.&#8221; [<em>\u1e62a\u1e25\u012b\u1e25 al-Bukh\u0101r\u012b<\/em> # 306.]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 10pt;\"><a href=\"#_ftnref2\" name=\"_ftn2\">[2]<\/a> Although, it is not <em>\u1e25ay\u1e0d<\/em> it is <em>musta\u1e25ab<\/em> (preferable) to refrain from sexual intercourse when she bleeds from the rectum, and it is also <em>musta\u1e25ab<\/em> for her to do <em>ghusl<\/em> when this bleeding stops. [<em>Kula\u1e63ah<\/em> 1\/231.]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 10pt;\"><a href=\"#_ftnref3\" name=\"_ftn3\">[3]<\/a> Reason: The blood a girl sees before the age of nine does not flow from the womb. Thus, it is not <em>\u1e25ay\u1e0d<\/em>, rather, it is <em>isti\u1e25\u0101\u1e0dah<\/em>. However, in \u201c<em>Ba\u1e25r<\/em>\u201d, it is mentioned that this blood should not be called <em>isti\u1e25\u0101\u1e0dah<\/em> because <em>isti\u1e25\u0101\u1e0dah<\/em> only occurs after a woman has experienced <em>\u1e25ay\u1e0d<\/em> already. In this case, a girl under the age of 9, has not experience <em>\u1e25ay\u1e0d<\/em> as yet, therefore, it is more correct to call the blood she sees <em>dam f\u0101sid<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 10pt;\">However, this difference in naming this blood, does <strong>not<\/strong> affect the ruling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 10pt;\"><a href=\"#_ftnref4\" name=\"_ftn4\">[4]<\/a> Reason: The blood she sees before childbirth does not flow from the womb. Thus, it is not <em>\u1e25ay\u1e0d<\/em>, rather, it is <em>isti\u1e25\u0101\u1e0dah<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 10pt;\"><a href=\"#_ftnref5\" name=\"_ftn5\">[5]<\/a> According to Im\u0101m Mu\u1e25ammad, the <em>\u1e25ay\u1e0d<\/em> begins from the time the flow is felt even if it has not exited the <em>farj d\u0101khil<\/em>. This difference of opinion can be understood from the following scenario:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 10pt;\"><strong><u>Scenario:<\/u><\/strong> A woman feels the blood flowing down before <em>Maghrib<\/em> but it does not exit the <em>farj d\u0101khil<\/em> as yet. After the sunsets, it exits the <em>farj d\u0101khil<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 10pt;\"><u>Im\u0101m Mu\u1e25ammad<\/u>: <em>\u1e24ay\u1e0d<\/em> begun before <em>Maghrib<\/em> when the blood flow was felt. Therefore, that fast became invalid. <em>Qa\u1e0d\u0101\u2019<\/em> is necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 10pt;\"><u>Im\u0101m Ab\u016b \u1e24an\u012bfah and Im\u0101m Ab\u016b Yusuf:<\/u> <em>\u1e24ay\u1e0d<\/em> begun after sunset when the blood exited the <em>farj<\/em> <em>d\u0101khil<\/em>.
