{"id":6605,"date":"2018-07-28T17:52:28","date_gmt":"2018-07-28T21:52:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.com\/?p=6605"},"modified":"2018-07-28T17:52:28","modified_gmt":"2018-07-28T21:52:28","slug":"types-of-recitation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.com\/?p=6605","title":{"rendered":"Types of Recitation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Im\u0101m al-Suy\u016b\u1e6d\u012b transmits from Ibn al-Jazar\u012b that the types of recitation are six:<br \/>\n1. <b><i>Mutaw\u0101tir<\/i><\/b>: This is [a recitation] that has been transmitted by such a large group that it is not possible that [ from the first to the last] they all agreed to lie.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Example<\/b>: Those recitations whose routes of transmission agree from among the seven. This is the case of majority of the recitations.<br \/>\n2. <b><i>Mashh\u016br<\/i><\/b>: It is that [recitation] whose chain of transmission is <b><i>\u1e63a\u1e25\u012b\u1e25 <\/i><\/b>due to its narrators being upright and precise individuals who transmit from people of similar qualities who report from people of similar qualities [and so on until you reach back to the Prophet, may peace and blessings be upon him], it is consistent with the Arabic language, agrees with one of the Uthmanic <b><i>Ma\u1e63\u0101\u1e25if<\/i><\/b> (pl. of <b><i>mu\u1e63\u1e25af<\/i><\/b>) whether it be transmitted from the seven <b><i>a\u2019immah<\/i><\/b> (pl. of <b><i>im\u0101m<\/i><\/b>) or the ten or others from among those <b><i>a\u2019immah<\/i><\/b> that are accepted, it is well-known among the scholars of recitation (i.e. the <b><i>Qurr\u0101<\/i><\/b>) and they don\u2019t consider it to be incorrect nor do they consider it to be <b><i>sh\u0101dh, <\/i><\/b>however it has not reached the level of <b><i>mutaw\u0101tir<\/i><\/b>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Example<\/b>: Recitations whose routes of transmission from the seven differ, so some narrators will transmit it while others will not. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nThese two categories are such that they are recited; it is necessary to believe in them and it is impermissible to denying anything from them.<br \/>\n3. <b><i>\u0100\u1e25\u0101d<\/i><\/b>: It is that [recitation whose] chain of narrators is <b><i>\u1e63\u0101\u1e25\u012b\u1e25<\/i><\/b>, however it contradicts the <b><i>rasm<\/i><\/b><i> <\/i>[.i.e that which was written in the ma\u1e63\u0101\u1e25if dispatched by Uthm\u0101n, may All\u0101h be pleased with him], or it contradicts the Arabic language, or it does not have the aforementioned renown [i.e. it not well-known among the scholars of recitation (i.e. the <b><i>Qurr\u0101<\/i><\/b>)].<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nAn example is what is [mentioned] by \u1e24\u0101kim by way of <sup>c<\/sup>\u0100\u1e63im al-Ja\u1e25dar\u012b on the authority of Abu Bakrah that the Prophet, may peace and blessing of All\u0101h be upon him, recited: (\u0645\u062a\u0643\u0626\u064a\u0646 \u0639\u0644\u0649 \u0631\u0641\u0627\u0631\u0641 \u062e\u0636\u0631 \u0648 \u0639\u0628\u0627\u0642\u0631\u064a \u062d\u0633\u0627\u0646) [\u1e62\u016brah al-Ra\u1e25m\u0101n, \u0100yah 79].<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n[Another example] is the recitation of (\u0644\u0642\u062f \u062c\u0627\u0621\u0643\u0645 \u0631\u0633\u0648\u0644 \u0645\u0646 \u0623\u0646\u0641\u064e\u0633\u0650\u0643\u0645) [\u1e62\u016brah Tawbah, \u0100yah 128] with a <b><i>fat\u1e25a<\/i><\/b> on the <b><i>f\u0101<\/i><\/b>.<br \/>\n4. <b><i>Sh\u0101dh<\/i><\/b>: It is that [recitation whose] chain of narrators is not <b><i>\u1e63a\u1e25\u012b\u1e25<\/i><\/b>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nFor example, the recitation of Ibn al-Samyaf<sup>c<\/sup>a: (\u0641\u0627\u0644\u064a\u0648\u0645 \u0646\u0646\u062d\u064a\u0643 \u0628\u0628\u062f\u0646\u0643) with a dotless <b><i>\u1e25a <\/i><\/b>(\u0644\u062a\u0643\u0648\u0646 \u0644\u0645\u0646 \u062e\u0644\u0641\u0643 \u0627\u064a\u0629) with a <b><i>fat\u1e25a<\/i><\/b> on the <b><i>l\u0101m<\/i><\/b> of the word (\u062e\u0644\u0641\u0643). [\u1e62\u016brah Y\u016bnus, \u0100yah 92]<br \/>\n5. <b><i>Maw\u1e0d\u016b<\/i><\/b><b><i><sup>c<\/sup><\/i><\/b>: It is such recitation that is attributed to someone without any basis.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Example<\/b>: Those recitations that Mu\u1e25ammad ibn Ja<sup>c<\/sup>far al-Khaz\u0101<sup>c<\/sup>\u012b attributed to [Im\u0101m] Ab\u016b \u1e24an\u012bfah.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n[Ab\u016b al-Fa\u1e0dl Mu\u1e25ammad ibn Ja<sup>c<\/sup>far al-Khuz\u0101<sup>c<\/sup>\u012b collected them and it was transmitted from him by Ab\u016b al-Q\u0101sim al-Hudhal\u012b. Part of it is: (\u0625\u0646\u0645\u0627 \u064a\u062e\u0634\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0645\u0646 \u0639\u0628\u0627\u062f\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0639\u0644\u0645\u0627\u0621) with (\u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647) in the nominative (i.e. read with a <b><i>dhamma<\/i><\/b>) and (\u0627\u0644\u0639\u0644\u0645\u0627\u0621) in the accusative (i.e. read with a <b><i>fat\u1e25a<\/i><\/b>). Al-D\u0101rqutn\u012b and a group of scholars have written that this book is a fabrication that has no basis. (<i>al-Itq\u0101n F\u012b <\/i><i><sup>c<\/sup><\/i><i>Ul\u016bm al-Qur\u2019\u0101n<\/i>. Jal\u0101ludd\u012bn al-Suy\u016b\u1e6d\u012b. Recitations that resemble the category of <b><i>Mudraj <\/i><\/b>in the [science] of <b><i>\u1e24ad\u012bth:<\/i><\/b> It is an addition in the recitation in the form of exegesis.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nFor example, the recitation of Sa<sup>c<\/sup>d ibn Ab\u012b Waqq\u0101\u1e63: (\u0648 \u0644\u0647 \u0623\u062e \u0623\u0648 \u0623\u062e\u062a \u0645\u0646 \u0623\u0645) [\u1e62\u016brah al-Nis\u0101, \u0100yah 12] with the addition of the wording (\u0645\u0646 \u0623\u0645), the recitation of (\u0644\u064a\u0633 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0643\u0645 \u062c\u0646\u0627\u062d \u0623\u0646 \u062a\u0628\u062a\u063a\u0648\u0627 \u0641\u0636\u0644\u0627 \u0645\u0646 \u0631\u0628\u0643\u0645 \u0641\u064a \u0645\u0648\u0627\u0633\u0645 \u0627\u0644\u062d\u062c) [\u1e62\u016brah Baqarah, \u0100yah 198], with the addition of the wording (\u0641\u064a \u0645\u0648\u0627\u0633\u0645 \u0627\u0644\u062d\u062c), and the recitation of al-Zubayr: (\u0648\u0644\u062a\u0643\u0646 \u0645\u0646\u0643\u0645 \u0623\u0645\u0629 \u064a\u062f\u0639\u0648\u0646 \u0625\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u062e\u064a\u0631 \u0648 \u064a\u0623\u0645\u0631\u0648\u0646 \u0628\u0627\u0644\u0645\u0639\u0631\u0648\u0641 \u0648 \u064a\u0646\u0647\u0648\u0646 \u0639\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0645\u0646\u0643\u0631 \u0648 \u064a\u0633\u062a\u0639\u064a\u0646\u0648\u0646 \u0628\u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u0649 \u0645\u0627 \u0623\u0635\u0627\u0628\u0647\u0645) [\u1e62\u016brah \u0100li Imr\u0101n, \u0100yah 104] with the addition of the wording (\u0648 \u064a\u0633\u062a\u0639\u064a\u0646\u0648\u0646 \u0628\u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u0649 \u0645\u0627 \u0623\u0635\u0627\u0628\u0647\u0645).<br \/>\nThis is merely a resemblance and not actual <b><i>mudraj<\/i><\/b>, because there is a difference of opinion concerning it. Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said, \u201cI don\u2019t know if it was his recitation (i.e. Zubayr\u2019s recitation) or if he was giving exegesis.\u201d Sa<sup>c<\/sup>\u012bd ibn Man\u1e63\u016br extracted it, as well as Ibn al-Anb\u0101r\u012b who was firm on it being exegesis.\u201d<br \/>\n[Another example is] \u1e24asan\u2019s recitation: (\u0648\u0625\u0646 \u0645\u0646\u0643\u0645 \u0623\u0644\u0627 \u0648\u0627\u0631\u062f\u0647\u0627 \u0627\u0644\u0648\u0631\u0648\u062f \u0627\u0644\u062f\u062e\u0648\u0644). Ibn al-Anb\u0101r\u012b said, \u201cHis statement: (\u0627\u0644\u0648\u0631\u0648\u062f \u0627\u0644\u062f\u062e\u0648\u0644) is exegesis on the part of \u1e24asan for the meaning of (\u0627\u0644\u0648\u0631\u0648\u062f). Some of the narrators made an error and inserted it into the Qur\u2019\u0101n.&#8221;<br \/>\nAt the end Ibn al-Jazar\u012b said, \u201cIt may sometimes happen that they inserted exegesis into the address for clarification because they were certain of what they had received from the Messenger of All\u0101h, may peace and blessings be upon him, in the form of Qur\u2019\u0101n, and thus they were safe from confusion and mixups.\u201d<br \/>\n(<i>Man\u0101hil al-<\/i><i><sup>c<\/sup><\/i><i>Irf\u0101n<\/i>, Shaykh Mu\u1e25ammad Abdul-<sup>c<\/sup>A\u1e93\u012bm al-Zarq\u0101n\u012b. \u1e6ca\u1e25q\u012bq: Faww\u0101z A\u1e25mad Zamaral\u012b.
