{"id":6146,"date":"2017-12-26T07:32:05","date_gmt":"2017-12-26T11:32:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.com\/?p=6146"},"modified":"2017-12-26T07:32:05","modified_gmt":"2017-12-26T11:32:05","slug":"delayed-obedience-in-joining-the-congregational-prayer-is-disobedience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.com\/?p=6146","title":{"rendered":"Delayed Obedience (in Joining the Congregational Prayer) is Disobedience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u0628\u0633\u0645 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0631\u062d\u0645\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0631\u062d\u064a\u0645<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The general rule is that when the <em>muezzin<\/em> calls out \u2018<em>Hayyaa alas Salah\u2019<\/em> (Come to Prayer), it is required for all mature males to hasten to the congregational <em>Salah<\/em> in the<em> Masjid.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If, for some reason, one was delayed and only came into the <em>masjid<\/em> after the prayer has already commenced, then he ought to join the congregation in whatever posture they happen to be in. Although, if one misses the<em> ruku&#8217;<\/em>\u00a0(bowing) with the Imam, he is considered to have missed that <em>rak&#8217;ah<\/em>, he should <strong>not<\/strong> wait until the Imam stands for the next <em>rak&#8217;ah<\/em>\u00a0to join the congregation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is because the <em>Masjid<\/em> is the court of Allah Ta&#8217;ala, on entering it one should display exceptional respect and humility. The King of kings has summoned us to converse with him. The occasion demands a response of eagerness and willingness from our side. It is not befitting that we loiter, wait or converse with others at the back while the Imam is in <em>Qiyaam<\/em> (standing), <em>Qa&#8217;idah<\/em> (sitting) or <em>Sajdah<\/em> (prostrating). Delaying while the imam and congregation is in <em>qiyaam<\/em> (standing) is, in effect, saying \u201cI don\u2019t really need to stand in front of You, Allah, I have some more important business to discuss with this brother, firstly.\u201d If the Imam is in <em>sajdah<\/em> (prostration), it is as though one is saying, \u201cWell, we are not going to bow to You, Allah, since the <em>rakah<\/em>\u00a0is still going to be considered missed.\u201d In summary, this attitude portrays arrogance and total disregard for the sanctity of the <em>masjid<\/em>, the court of Allah Ta&#8217;ala, and the great act of <em>salah.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rather, our beloved Rasullullah (\u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645) taught us to join the Imam in whatever position he is in. He (\u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645) said \u201cWhen one of you comes to the <em>Salah<\/em> and (finds) that the Imam is in a (particular) position, then do as the Imam is doing.&#8221;<a href=\"#_edn1\" name=\"_ednref1\">[i]<\/a> Even if the Imam is in <em>Sajdah<\/em>, the Messenger (\u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645) instructed us to join in by saying, \u201cIf you come to the prayer and find us in prostration, then go into prostration, but do not count it (i.e. do not count it as a <em>rak&#8217;ah<\/em>\u00a0you have performed).\u201d<a href=\"#_edn2\" name=\"_ednref2\">[ii]<\/a> In another narration he (\u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645) commanded us, \u201cWhoever finds me while I am bowing, prostrating or standing, then he should join me in the position I am in.\u201d<a href=\"#_edn3\" name=\"_ednref3\">[iii]<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The one who loiters and chats at the back or even stands in the line waiting on the Imam to come back up from the <em>sajdah<\/em> or first sitting (<em>Qa&#8217;idah<\/em>) is actually being disrespectful and is deprived of much good and rewards. Shaikh Rasheed Ahmed Gangohi \u0631\u062d\u0645\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 said, \u201cIn standing there and waiting on the Imam one is opposing the Muslims and delaying an act of worship.\u201d<a href=\"#_edn4\" name=\"_ednref4\">[iv]<\/a>\u00a0After narrating the first<em> hadith<\/em>, Imam Tirmithi states, \u201cPerhaps he may be forgiven before he raises his head from that <em>Sajdah<\/em> (provided he performs it).\u201d Prostration is the position in which a human being comes closest to his Creator.<a href=\"#_edn5\" name=\"_ednref5\">[v]<\/a> May Allah make it that we never miss any such opportunity. If the Imam is in the first sitting, we will get the chance to reap the tremendous rewards of reciting the <em>tashahhud<\/em>. This is why the <em>muezzin<\/em> also calls out, \u2018<em>Hayyaa alal Falaah<\/em>\u2019 (Come to Success). Thus, when Allah has called us, delaying our coming is a form of disobedience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">May Allah protect us and grant us<em> tawfeeq<\/em> and divine ability.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"#_ednref1\" name=\"_edn1\">[i]<\/a> Tirmithi #591\u00a0Shaikh Arnawut graded it \u2018Sahih Li-Ghairihi\u2019. (Vol.2 Pg.130 #597)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"#_ednref2\" name=\"_edn2\">[ii]<\/a> Abu Dawud #893,\u00a0Hakim in Mustadrak Vol.1 Pg.216 and he authenticated it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"#_ednref3\" name=\"_edn3\">[iii]<\/a> Ibn Abi Shaibah in his Musannaf #2616\u00a0\u00a0Authenticated by Hafiz Ibn Hajr in \u2018Al-Matalibul A\u2019liyah\u2019 (Vol.4 Pg.84 #479) The complete hadith is as follows: \u201cAn Ansari man said that the Prophet \ufdfa heard the steps of my sandals while he was prostrating. So when he completed his salah, he asked, \u2018Whose sandal steps did I hear?\u2019 He replied, \u201cI, O Messenger of Allah.\u2019 He \ufdfa asked, \u2018So what did you do?\u2019 He replied, \u2018I found you prostrating, so I prostrated.\u2019 He \ufdfa said, \u2018In this manner, you all should do but do not count it as a rakah.
