Question:<\/span><\/p>\n

Is it a major sin to have intercourse with one\u2019s wife during menses? Is there a severe warning concerning it?<\/p>\n

Answer:<\/span><\/p>\n

It is prohibited (haram<\/em>) to have sexual intercourse during the menstrual period based on the Quranic text.[1]<\/a> It is a major sin.[2]<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/a>If that ever happens by mistake, then, if one had intercourse in the begging of the menses, it is best<\/span>[3]<\/a> to give one dinar<\/span>[4]<\/a> in charity and if one had intercourse during the end of the menses, it is best to give half of a dinar<\/span>[5]<\/a> in charity.<\/span>[6]<\/a>
\nIt is compulsory (<\/span>wajib<\/em>) to repent (<\/span>tawbah<\/em>) and seek forgiveness (<\/span>istighfaar<\/em>).<\/span><\/p>\n

[1]<\/a> Allah Ta\u2019ala said, \u201cAnd they ask you about menstruation. Say, \u2018It is harm, so keep away from wives during menstruation. And do not approach them until they are pure. And when they have purified themselves, then come to them from where Allah has ordained for you. Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves.\u2019” (Surah Baqarah: 222)<\/p>\n

[2]<\/a> Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet \ufdfa said, \u201cWhoever engages in sexual intercourse with a menstruating woman, or a woman in her anus, consults a soothsayer, then he has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad.\u201d [Tirmidhi #135]<\/p>\n

[3]<\/a> Mustahab (desirable). This is the opinion of the Hanafiyah and Shafi\u2019eyah. As for the Hanabilah, they say that it is wajib to pay half a dinar. The Malikiyahs say that there is no kaffarah (monetary recompense). [See Mawsoo\u2019ah Fiqhiyyah Vol.18 Pg.324]<\/p>\n

[4]<\/a> One dinar is 4.374 grams of gold.<\/strong><\/p>\n

[5]<\/a> Half of a dinar is 2.187 grams of gold.<\/strong><\/p>\n

[6]<\/a> Ibn Abbas \u0631\u0636\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0646\u0647\u0645\u0627 narrates that the Prophet (\u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645) said about a man who has sexual intercourse with a menstruating woman, \u201cHe should give one or half dinar as sadaqah.\u201d [Collected by Abu Dawud #2168] Ibn Abbas \u0631\u0636\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0646\u0647\u0645\u0627 narrated that the Prophet \u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645 said, \u201cWhen the blood is red then (give) a Dinar.
