From the following analysis, Allah willing, it will become crystal clear that this narration is actually evidence against their position.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">From this <em>hadith<\/em>, the following points become clear:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Only one side was going below Abu Bakr\u2019s ankle (\u0631\u0636\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0646\u0647). So how can one use this to intentionally hang both sides down his ankles?<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Abu Bakr (\u0631\u0636\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0646\u0647) was not doing it intentionally. How can this be evidence for those who purposely and intentionally wear their trousers below their ankles?<a href=\"#_ftn3\" name=\"_ftnref3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a> Rather, the scholars wrote that Abu Bakr (\u0631\u0636\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0646\u0647) was very slim and his garments would not stay on him tightly. They would slip off of his hips. <em>Allamah<\/em> Kirmani (\u0631\u062d\u0645\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647) said he had a slight hunch to his back which also caused his garment to slip off.<a href=\"#_ftn4\" name=\"_ftnref4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a><\/li>\n<li>When he realised it slipped off, he would lift it up.<a href=\"#_ftn5\" name=\"_ftnref5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a> These people never lift it up.<\/li>\n<li>Since Abu Bakr (\u0631\u0636\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0646\u0647) didn\u2019t wear it below his ankles intentionally and he would ensure to lift it when he realized it slipped below, there was no question of him being arrogant. Yet, he asked the question concerning his situation. Therefore, this means that he understood it to be general and not restricted to pride. Otherwise, his question would not make sense.<a href=\"#_ftn6\" name=\"_ftnref6\">[6]<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The Messenger of Allah (\ufdfa) received revelation from Allah and by it he would know the state of the heart of a person. So, he had the right to testify of the purity of Abu Bakr\u2019s heart (\u0631\u0636\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0646\u0647).<\/li>\n<li>Since the Messenger (\ufdfa) is no longer amongst us, we are not able to claim purity for anyone. Allah alone knows who is pure at heart.<\/li>\n<li>Some scholars say that, out of all the <em>Sahabah<\/em> (\u0631\u0636\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0646\u0647\u0645), only Abu Bakr (\u0631\u0636\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0646\u0647) was given the reassurance that he is not doing it out of pride. Therefore, this was a specific permission for him. There is no other <em>Sahabi<\/em> who was afforded this, not even Umar, Uthman or Ali (\u0631\u0636\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0646\u0647\u0645). So how can we, who are drowned in sin, claim purity?<a href=\"#_ftn7\" name=\"_ftnref7\">[7]<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The scholars say that this <em>hadith<\/em> shows that if one\u2019s garment was to unintentionally fall below one\u2019s ankles, then he would not be taken to task for it. However, this in no way means that one should be careless about it.<\/li>\n<li>Even though this narration clearly negates pride from Abu Bakr (\u0631\u0636\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0646\u0647), <em>Imam<\/em> Bukhari (\u0631\u062d\u0645\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647) still mentioned it under the \u2018Book of Clothing\u2019, this is to point out that this <em>hadith<\/em> is a general guideline of wearing garments, without paying attention to the issue of arrogance.<a href=\"#_ftn8\" name=\"_ftnref8\">[8]<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Ibn Umar (\u0631\u0636\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0646\u0647\u0645\u0627), the narrator of this <em>hadith<\/em>, used to always keep his garments at mid-calf. It is not narrated that he allowed letting the garments go below the ankles for anyone.<\/li>\n<li>Rather, <em>Hafiz<\/em> Ibn Abdil Barr (\u0631\u062d\u0645\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647) mentions a narration in \u2018<em>Tamheed<\/em>\u2019 in which Ibn Umar (\u0631\u0636\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0646\u0647\u0645\u0627) instructed Abdullah ibn Waqid to lift his garment above his ankles.
