{"id":5539,"date":"2016-12-03T17:06:58","date_gmt":"2016-12-03T21:06:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.co\/?p=5539"},"modified":"2016-12-03T17:06:58","modified_gmt":"2016-12-03T21:06:58","slug":"was-there-co-education-in-the-messengers-era","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.com\/?p=5539","title":{"rendered":"Was there Co-Education in The Messenger\u2019s Era?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u0628\u0633\u0645 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0631\u062d\u0645\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0631\u062d\u064a\u0645<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nowadays there is a group of lecturers and self-appointed daaees who claim that men and women attended classes together during the time of the Messenger of Allah (\u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645). This claim is far from the truth. From the passage below, written by the great muhaddith, historian and faqeeh, Ibn Rajab Hanbali (\u0631\u062d\u0645\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647), it becomes clear that education in the era of the Messenger (\u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645) was imparted in <strong>total segregation<\/strong>. While men were taught in the Masjid, women were not. \u00a0Rather, women&#8217;s classes were conducted at someone\u2019s home.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hafiz Ibn Rajab Hanbali (\u0631\u062d\u0645\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647) explains:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is narrated in the two authentic books (Bukhari, Muslim)<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a>\u00a0from Abu Said Al-Khudri (\u0631\u0636\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0646\u0647), who\u00a0said: The women said to the Prophet (\u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645), &#8220;The men have overcome us with regards to your time, so fix a date for us with yourself. The Prophet (\u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645) then promised a day in which he would meet them. So he admonished them and ordered them, and from what he said to them was the following, &#8220;There is not a woman from amongst you whose three children die except that they (the children) will be a veil between them and the Fire.&#8221; So a woman asked, \u201cWhat if two die?\u201d He (\u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645) replied, &#8220;Even if two die.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This indicates towards the fact that the gatherings of the Prophet (\u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645) regarding understanding the Deen, reminders and the like, did not have women present with the men. They only used to attend the obligatory prayers at the very back of the Masjid during the night, and would then leave immediately (following the prayer). They also used to attend the two Eid prayers with the Muslims, but were, however, separate from the men i.e. meaning behind them. Due to this, when the Prophet (\u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645) gave the Khutbah on the Eid day, he noticed that the women did not hear (the Khutbah). When he finished (his Khutbah) he went with Bilal to the women folk and advised them, reminded them and ordered to give charity. He made the men remain sitting until he finished the admonition he delivered to the women.<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[2]<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The crux of all this is that the mixing of men and women in gatherings is a reprehensible innovation<\/strong>, just like Hasan Al-Basri (\u0631\u062d\u0645\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647) said. This is the reason the women folk said to him, &#8220;Oh Messenger of Allah, The men folk have overcome us with regards to your time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is narrated from the hadith of Abu Hurayra (\u0631\u0636\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0646\u0647): The women folk said, &#8220;O Messenger of Allah, verily we do not have the ability to sit with you in your gatherings. Surely, the men have overwhelmed us (regarding spending time with you), so appoint for us a time in which we may come to you.&#8221; The Prophet \ufdfa said &#8220;Your appointed place is in so and so&#8217;s house.&#8221; The Prophet \ufdfa came to them and lectured them.<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[3]<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Allah Ta\u2019ala ordered the Prophet \ufdfa to convey what was revealed to him to the men and women folk, and to instruct all people.
