{"id":5480,"date":"2016-11-17T19:01:39","date_gmt":"2016-11-17T23:01:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.co\/?p=5480"},"modified":"2016-11-17T19:01:39","modified_gmt":"2016-11-17T23:01:39","slug":"curse-of-ham","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.com\/?p=5480","title":{"rendered":"Curse of Ham"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He [Ibn al-Jaw\u1e93\u012b] wrote, \u201cAs for that which has been narrated that N\u016b\u1e25\u2019s privates were uncovered and \u1e24\u0101m did not cover it due to which N\u016b\u1e25 made du\u2019\u0101 against him and he became black is something which is not established nor is it authentic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I [Im\u0101m Suy\u016b\u1e6d\u012b] say, \u201cThis is strengthened by what Umm al-Fa\u1e0dl bint Mu\u1e25ammad informed me: The Messenger of All\u0101h, may peace and blessings of All\u0101h be upon him, said, \u2018Indeed, All\u0101h created \u0100dam from a handful taken from the entire earth. thus the children of \u0100dam come in accordance with the earth, some being white, red, black, and in between, smooth and rough, good and bad.\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This narration is the one relied upon concerning the reason for humanities\u2019 complexion, which is traced back to the clay from which they were created.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As for those narrations which Ibn al-Jaw\u1e93\u012b negates, this is in reference to that which Ibn Jar\u012br quoted in his book of history:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1. \u2019The people of the Tawr\u0101h claim that is only so because of the supplication N\u016b\u1e25 made against his son \u1e24\u0101m. To be more precise, [they claim] that N\u016b\u1e25 was asleep and his privates became exposed. \u1e24\u0101m saw this but didn\u2019t cover him. However S\u0101m and Y\u0101fith saw this and threw a cloth over him, concealing his privates. When N\u016b\u1e25 woke up he came to know of the actions of \u1e24\u0101m, S\u0101m, and Y\u0101fith and said, \u2018Cursed be Kan&#8217;\u0101n ibn \u1e24\u0101m. Slaves of slaves will they be to his brothers,\u2019 as well as, \u2018May All\u0101h, my Lord, bless S\u0101m, let \u1e24\u0101m be a slave to his brothers, and enlarge Y\u0101fith; make \u1e24\u0101m alight in his dwelling and let Kan&#8217;\u0101n be a slave to him.&#8217; [Tar\u012bkh al-\u1e6cabr\u012b. D\u0101r al-Ma\u2019\u0101rif. 1:202]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2. \u2018N\u016b\u1e25 supplicated in favor of S\u0101m that prophets and messengers should be from his children, and supplicated for Y\u0101fith that kings should exist amongst his children, but he supplicated against \u1e24\u0101m that his color should change and his children should be slaves to the children of S\u0101m and Y\u0101fith.\u2019[Tar\u012bkh al-\u1e6cabr\u012b. D\u0101r al-Ma\u2019\u0101rif. 1:203] and \u2018It is mentioned in the books that the condition of slavery was upon \u1e24\u0101m after that, so he supplicated that he should have a son who was treated kindly by his brothers,\u2019[Tar\u012bkh al-\u1e6cabr\u012b. D\u0101r al-Ma\u2019\u0101rif. 1:203] and [in another narration], \u2018N\u016b\u1e25 supplicated against \u1e24\u0101m that the hair of his children should not pass their ears and that wherever his children met the children of S\u0101m they would enslave them.\u2019 [Tar\u012bkh al-\u1e6cabr\u012b.
