Question:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

What is the basis for the famous notion that the grave should be so deep that when the Angels come to question the deceased he should be able to sit without his head hitting the wooden planks?<\/p>\n

Answer:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The upper part of the grave (above the wooden planks) should be as deep\u00a0as the chest or full length of a person. And where the deceased is placed should be deep enough that the wooden planks do not touch his body. If the space is about two hand-spans[1]<\/a> in length then the planks would not touch the body.<\/p>\n

When burying the deceased there is no need to leave any space for the coming of the Angels or for the dead to sit. When the Angels come they will make space for sitting. The soil of the grave will become soft (and penetrable) like water as mentioned in (the book) \u2018Haadil Arwaah\u2019 (by Ibn Qayyim Jawziyah).[2]<\/a><\/p>\n
