If a person inserts anything in his mouth during salah and swallows it, whether intentionally or forgetfully, even if it is a sesame seed or one drop of rain, the salah is nullified. Similarly if food remained stuck in a person\u2019s teeth before salah, and it was the size of a small chick pea, and he swallowed it in salah, the salah will be nullified. If it was smaller than a small chick pea and\u00a0he chewed it three times or more, the salah will also<\/strong> be nullified.<\/p>\n

However, if it was very small, and simply by licking the teeth with the tongue, it went down the throat with ones saliva, then the salah will not<\/strong> be nullified. However, to do such intentionally is disliked (makrooh).<\/p>\n

If a person ate a sweet (candy) before salah and swallowed it, then during salah the sweetness remained in his mouth and he swallowed it, his salah will not<\/strong> be invalidated.<\/p>\n

However, if he placed a sweet, piece of sugar-cane or gum etc. in his mouth and commenced salah, and its sweetness goes down his throat, the salah will be invalidated. Similarly, if a person was to chew on a tasteless item three times or more during salah, it will invalidate the salah.<\/p>\n

If a person places a tasteless item in his mouth before or during salah and it prevents him from reciting the Quran, this will invalidate the salah. If it does not prevent him from reciting the Quran and he does not swallow it, it will not invalidate the salah, however it is makrooh.<\/p>\n

N.B.- Prevention from recital is if any of following occur:<\/p>\n

  1. He is unable to recite and remains silent,<\/li>\n
  2. He recites but non-Quranic words are\u00a0pronounced.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
