Masbooq<\/strong>: A person who has missed any rakats in a congregational salah. After the Imam completes his salah, the masbooq gets up and makes up the rakat\/s he had missed.<\/p>\n

If a masbooq, while remembering that he has missed a rakat (or more), intentionally makes salam with the Imam, then his salah becomes fasid (void). It would be binding on him to repeat the salah.<\/p>\n

However, if he had forgotten that he missed a rakat (or more) and he made salam mistakenly, then there are three scenarios:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The masbooq made salam before the Imam.<\/li>\n
  2. He made salam simultaneously with the Imam\n
      \n
    • The salah is not fasid (void) and there is\u00a0no<\/strong>\u00a0sajdah-sahw on him in the above two cases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • However, if he makes salam after the Imam, whether it was one or both salams, then, even though his salah did not become fasid (void), it is\u00a0wajib<\/strong>\u00a0on him to make a\u00a0sajdah-sahw<\/u>\u00a0in the end of his salah after making up his missed rakat\/s.[1]<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Allamah Ibn Abideen Shami (\u0631\u062d\u0645\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647) has cautioned that people\u00a0usually<\/strong>\u00a0make salam\u00a0after<\/strong>\u00a0the Imam, therefore the sajdah-sahw will be\u00a0wajib<\/strong>. He also said, unfortunately many people are heedless about\u00a0this, so be cautious.<\/p>\n

      [1]\u00a0 In the first two cases the masbooq was still behind the Imam and any sahw (mistake) a muqtadi makes is forgiven. As for the case where the Imam has already said the word ‘As-Salaam’ of the first salaam the iqtidaa (following the Imam) comes to an end. Therefore the masbooq is on his own and is in the ruling of a munfarid. And when a munfarid makes a mistake then he must make a sajdah-sahw.
