{"id":4166,"date":"2015-12-25T14:00:11","date_gmt":"2015-12-25T18:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.co\/?p=4166"},"modified":"2015-12-25T14:00:11","modified_gmt":"2015-12-25T18:00:11","slug":"salah-driving-reap-rewards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.com\/?p=4166","title":{"rendered":"Salah While Driving: Reap The Rewards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem<br \/>\nNafl (Optional) Salah in a Vehicle<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In our era of hustle &amp; bustle, the following sunnah of Rasulullah (sallallahu\u2019alaihi wasallam) is quite pertinent and appropriate:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sayyiduna Abdullah Ibn \u2018Umar (radiyallahu \u2018anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu\u2019alaihi wasallam) would perform (nafl) salah on his conveyance while he was out of the town. (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 1096 &amp; Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1608, 1616).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Fuqaha (Jurists) have mentioned that this practice (of offering nafl salah in one\u2019s conveyance) is Mustahab (encouraged).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This has also been the practice of our Seniors.<\/p>\n<p>While offering nafl salah in one\u2019s vehicle the following should be borne in mind:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1. This salah can be offered while\u00a0sittingin a vehicle as soon as a person is\u00a0out of any town\/locality. (Shami, 2\/38-39<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2. It is\u00a0not\u00a0necessary for the person who intends performing this salah to be a Musaafir (undertaking a journey of 77 Kms or more) (Shami, 2\/38-39 &amp; Tahtawi, pg.221)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">3. It is\u00a0not\u00a0necessary to face the qiblah when performing nafl salah in the vehicle. (Sahih Bukhari,1096 &amp; Shami, 2\/39)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">4. This salah can be offered with shoes as long as there is no impurity on them. (Shami, 2\/39)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">5. The ruku\u2019 and sajdah can be made by lowering the head. (it should be lower in sajdah than in ruku\u2019) (Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith:1220)<br \/>\nOne should not make ruku\u2019 or sajdah by placing the head on anything. (\u2018Alamgiri, 1\/143)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">6. The\u00a0driver\u00a0can also perform this salah as long as he does not endanger his life or the lives of his passengers. (Shami, 2\/39 &amp; \u2018Alamgiri, 1\/143)<br \/>\ni.e, the salah will remain correct despite him manoeuvring his vehicle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">7. One who wishes to observe this salahmust\u00a0be in the state of wudhu<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">8. One may only offer\u00a0nafl (optional) salah\u00a0in the above manner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The renowned commentator of Sahih Bukhari; Hafidh Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) writes: \u201cThe secret behind this relaxation in the rules is: that through the mercy of Allah upon the ummah they are now able to increase their nawaafil (optional) prayers and thereby earn huge rewards from Allah. (Fathul Bari 2\/743 Hadith:1099)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Most people spend some time or the other in traffic on a daily or weekly basis.
