{"id":2474,"date":"2014-05-01T10:41:48","date_gmt":"2014-05-01T14:41:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.com\/?p=2474"},"modified":"2014-05-01T10:41:48","modified_gmt":"2014-05-01T14:41:48","slug":"hadith-promises-reward-100-martyrs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.com\/?p=2474","title":{"rendered":"The Hadith which promises the reward of 100 Martyrs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"center\"><i>\u201cWhoever holds on to my sunnah at the time of corruption of my Ummah, will get the reward of a hundred martyrs\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1. The word used in\u00a0<b>this<\/b>\u00a0narration is: \u201c<i>man Tamassaka<\/i>\u201d which translates as: One who holds steadfast to my sunnah, and\u00a0<b>not<\/b>: One who revives it (as is commonly quoted).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2.\u00a0A look at the other ahadith in the chapter under which \u2018Allamah Mundhiri and \u2018Allamah Baghawi have cited this hadith clearly points to the meaning being: Adherence to the sunnah in general.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For example, Hafidh Mundhiri (rahimahullah) quotes the following hadith before this one:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhoever eats halal, practices upon the sunnah and doesn\u2019t harm the people will enter Jannah\u201d (Hakim)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2018Allamah Baghawi (rahimahullah) cites the following hadith before the one in question:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2026Whoever loves my sunnah loves me, and who loves me will be with me in Jannah\u201d (Tirmidhi)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Undoubtedly, these ahadith do not mean that the love or practice of just one sunnah yields the reward of Jannah! Although it cannot be denied, that Allah Ta\u2019ala could grant an individual Jannah even for his love for only one sunnah.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Therefore, when asked about this issue, Shaykh Yunus Jawnpuri (may Allah protect him) answered:\u00a0<b>\u201cIt\u2019s quite clear that the Hadith is referring to the practice on the entire sunnah<\/b>, although it wouldn\u2019t be farfetched to understand it to be referring to even just one sunnah\u201d (Al-Yawaqitul Ghaliyah, vol.1 pg.46)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0After writing the above, I asked my Respected Teacher, Al-Muhaddith Shaykh Muhammad \u2018Awwamah (may Allah protect him) on 13 January 2014, about the meaning of the hadith, to which he replied: \u201cIt\u2019s difficult to say that it refers to adhering to just one sunnah. The more appropriate meaning is the broader one (i.e, that this is the virtue of holding on to the sunnah in general) although one may use it for a specific sunnah when wisdom demands so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Be that as it may, let us all make a firm intention to always stick to the way of our Beloved Nabi (sallallahu\u2019alayhi wasallam).<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0www.al-miftah.com<\/b><br \/>\nAnd Allah Ta\u2019ala knows best.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cWhoever holds on to my sunnah at the time of corruption of my Ummah, will get the reward of a hundred martyrs\u201d 1.
