{"id":1821,"date":"2013-12-24T17:28:10","date_gmt":"2013-12-24T21:28:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.com\/?p=1821"},"modified":"2013-12-24T17:28:10","modified_gmt":"2013-12-24T21:28:10","slug":"importance-tajweed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.com\/?p=1821","title":{"rendered":"The Importance of Tajweed."},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Importance of Tajweed.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/images-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1822 alignright\" alt=\"images (1)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/images-1.jpg\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The dictionary meaning of Tajweed is to beautify, enhance and improve.<br \/>\nTechnically, Tajweed means to recite the Quraan-e-Kareem in the manner and mode in which it was revealed to and recited by Rasulullah (Salalaahu alaihi wasallam) i.e. to read with the correct Makharij and Sifaat and also to take into consideration the places of stopping.<br \/>\nSimply Tajweed means to pronounce every letter correctly with all its qualities and apply the rules of stopping.<br \/>\nThe obligatory status and application of Tajweed is established through three sources:<br \/>\n(1)\u00a0 Quraan<br \/>\n(2)\u00a0 Hadeeth<br \/>\n(3)\u00a0 Ijmaa (consensus) of the Qurra amd Ulema.<br \/>\n<b>The Quraan<\/b><br \/>\n(a)\u00a0\u00a0 In the Holy Quraan Allah says : \u0648\u064e\u0631\u064e\u062a\u0651\u064e\u0644\u0650 \u0627\u0644\u0652\u0642\u064f\u0631\u0652\u0627\u0670\u0646\u064e \u062a\u064e\u0631\u0652\u062a\u0650\u064a\u0652\u0644\u064e\u0627<br \/>\nand recite the Quraan with Tarteel. (73\/4)<br \/>\nThe word Tarteel, according to Imam Raghib as explicated in al-Mufarradat, originally means to put together and arrange well the component parts of a word and speech and make it distinct. The purport of the verse is to say that the Quraan must not be recited in haste, but in a leisurely manner, distinctly, deliberately and a well measured tone. At the same time, it is necessary to reflect on its meaning and message. ( Ma`aariful Quraan, vol. \u00a08 pg. 615\/616)<br \/>\nHazrat Ali (R.A.) explains the word Tarteel to mean: The correct pronunciation of the letters and the recognition of the stops.<br \/>\nShah Abdul Aziz says under this Aayat, according to the Shariah it entails 7 things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To articulate every letter from its Makhraj together with its Sifaat (attributes) so that every letter be distinct from the other.<\/li>\n<li>To pronounce the Harakat (Fatha, Kasra, Dhumma ) clearly and sharply in a recognized manner and not passively as non Arabs do.<\/li>\n<li>To consider the places of pausing and stopping, so that the meaning of the Quraan does not become distorted by stopping at inappropriate places.<\/li>\n<li>To read the Tashdeed and Madd fully, because through it the grandeur of the Quraan becomes apparent.<\/li>\n<li>To raise the voice slightly when reciting alone.<\/li>\n<li>To recite in a beautiful voice.<\/li>\n<li>To beg Allah for forgiveness when reading the aayat of warning and Azaab (punishment), and ask of His favours when reciting the aayats of glad tidings and reward.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(Taken from a gift for the Qaari)<br \/>\n(b)\u00a0 \u00a0In another verse of the Holy Quraan Allah says :<br \/>\n\u0627\u064e\u0644\u0651\u064e\u0630\u0650\u064a\u0652\u0646\u064e \u0623\u0670\u062a\u064e\u064a\u0652\u0646\u064e\u0627\u0647\u064f\u0645\u064f \u0627\u0644\u0652\u0643\u0650\u062a\u064e\u0627\u0628\u064e \u064a\u064e\u062a\u0652\u0644\u064f\u0648\u0652\u0646\u064e\u0647\u064f \u062d\u064e\u0642\u0651\u064e \u062a\u0650\u0644\u064e\u0627\u0648\u064e\u062a\u0650\u0647\u0650<br \/>\n&#8216;Those to whom We have given the book recite it as it rightfully should be recited.'(2\/121)<br \/>\nReciting the Quraan as it was revealed means that the Quran must be recited in compliance to the rules of Tajweed. The Arabic alphabet comprises of 29 letters, all of which have to be recited correctly, together with all their vocal attributes. Negligence in this regard will lead one to recite a letter as another, thereby changing the meaning of the words. By doing so, one`s Salaah may also be nullified in certain instances. <b>To correct this, it is imperative that every Muslim should study the subject of Tajweed.<\/b>(Anwaarul Bayaan Vol. 1, pg. 118)<br \/>\n(c)\u00a0 \u0648\u064e \u0642\u064e\u0627\u0644\u064e \u0627\u0644\u0631\u0651\u064e\u0633\u064f\u0648\u0652\u0644\u064f \u064a\u0631\u064e\u0628\u0651\u0650 \u0627\u0650\u0646\u0651\u064e \u0642\u064e\u0648\u0652\u0645\u0650\u0649 \u0627\u062a\u0651\u064e\u062e\u064e\u0630\u064f\u0648\u0652\u0627 \u0647\u0670\u0630\u064e\u0627 \u0627\u0644\u0652\u0642\u064f\u0631\u0652\u0627\u0670\u0646\u064e \u0645\u064e\u0647\u0652\u062c\u064f\u0648\u0652\u0631\u064b\u0627<br \/>\n&#8216;And the messenger said: O my lord, certainly my people have taken this Quraan as obsolete.&#8217; (surah Furqaan 25 verse 30)<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nIn Tafseer-e-Usmani under this verse Allama Shabir Ahmad Usmani says: Though this verse mentions only infidels and unbelievers, yet slackness or indolence in confirming the Quraan, or reflecting on it, or acting upon it, or reciting it, or attending to its correct pronunciation, and attending to other insignificant and baseless things turning from it \u2013 all these forms can be put under the Hijraanul Quraan( (\u0647\u0650\u062c\u0652\u0631\u064e\u0627\u0646\u064f \u0627\u0644\u0652\u0642\u064f\u0631\u0652\u0627\u0646\u0650 desertion of the Quraan according to their degrees).<br \/>\n<b>In the Ahadeeth there is also proof of Tajweed<\/b><br \/>\n\u0627\u0650\u0646\u0651\u064e \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647\u064e \u064a\u064f\u062d\u0650\u0628\u0651\u064f \u0623\u064e\u0646\u0652 \u064a\u064f\u0642\u0652\u0631\u064e\u0623\u064e \u0627\u0644\u0652\u0642\u064f\u0631\u0652\u0627\u0646\u064f \u0643\u064e\u0645\u064e\u0627 \u0623\u064f\u0646\u0652\u0632\u0650\u0644\u064e<br \/>\n&#8216;Certainly Allah loves that the Quraan be recited as it was revealed.&#8217; (Al Madkhal Fii Uloomil Qiraat Juz 1 pg 108 shamila)<br \/>\nThe Quraan had a special way in which it was revealed and has to be recited hence Allah loves that type of recitation.<br \/>\n<b>Concensus of the Ummah about the compulsion of Tajweed.<\/b><br \/>\nFrom the era of the Prophet (sallalaahu &#8216;alaihi wa sallam) up to the present time, all the Qurra and Ulema are unanimous of the fact that it is Fardh to read the Quraan with Tajweed.<br \/>\nAllama Jazri in his An-Nashr, Abu Abdullah Nasr in his Kitaabul Mowdah, Hafiz Jalaaludeen Suyuti in his Itqaan, Hafiz Ahmad Qastalani in his book Lataaiful isharat, and many other Qurra and Ulema are among those who have acknowledged the fardhiyat (incumbency of Tajweed).<br \/>\nThis source of proof too, like the above two, is an authoritative one from which ulema have deduced the Fardhiyyat (incumbency) of Tajweed.
