{"id":1595,"date":"2013-12-05T19:51:18","date_gmt":"2013-12-05T23:51:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.com\/?p=1595"},"modified":"2013-12-05T19:51:18","modified_gmt":"2013-12-05T23:51:18","slug":"prohibitions-menstruation-postnatal-bleeding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiqhulislam.com\/?p=1595","title":{"rendered":"Prohibitions during Menstruation and Postnatal Bleeding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During the time a woman is menstruating or experiencing postnatal bleeding, the following eight activities are prohibited:<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>1.<\/strong> <\/span><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u1e62al\u0101t (ritual prayer).<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0It is also not permissible for her to perform a prostration of gratitude (<i>sajda shukr<\/i>) or prostration of recitation (<i>sajda til\u0101wa<\/i>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>2.<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Fasting obligatory or otherwise.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>3.<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Recitation of even a single verse of the Holy Qur\u2019\u0101n:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Reading less than a verse without the intention of reciting the Qur\u2019\u0101n is permissible, such as reciting <i>Al-<\/i><i>\u1e25<\/i><i>amudu li \u2019Ll\u0101h <\/i>\u201cAll praise is for All\u0101h,\u201d with the intention of gratitude or the recitation of <i>Bismi \u2019Ll\u0101h <\/i>\u201cIn the name of All\u0101h,\u201d before eating (<i>Al-Lub\u0101b <\/i>43).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>It is permissible to recite a verse or more with the intention of supplication (<i>du<\/i><i>\u02bf<\/i><i>\u0101\u2019<\/i>). For instance, the entire S\u016brat al-F\u0101ti\u1e25a can be recited with the intention of <i>du<\/i><i>\u02bf<\/i><i>\u0101\u2019. <\/i>Likewise, any other verse or chapter from the Qur\u2019\u0101n can be recited with the intention of <i>du<\/i><i>\u02bf<\/i><i>\u0101\u2019 <\/i>as long as they contain words indicative of supplication and there is no sin in this.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If a woman is teaching Qur\u2019\u0101n to students, then it will be permissible for her to spell out the words bit by bit and not recite the entire verse altogether. She can read one or two words at a time, breaking her breath in between.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0It is permissible to take the name of Allah, read <i>du<\/i><i>\u02bf<\/i><i>\u0101s, <\/i>send salutations and blessings (<i>\u1e63<\/i><i>alaw\u0101t<\/i>) on the Messenger of All\u0101h (\u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645) , to recite prayers of forgiveness (<i>istighf\u0101r<\/i>), or any other <i>dhikr <\/i>(remembrance).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>4.<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Touching the Qur\u2019\u0101n.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0However, it is permissible to touch the Qur\u2019\u0101n with a covering, such as a cloth sleeve or bag, but not a covering that is permanently attached to the Qur\u2019\u0101n. It is also not permissible to touch the Qur\u2019\u0101n with a portion of one\u2019s garment, such as the sleeve or the edge of a dress while one is wearing them (<i>Shar<\/i><i>\u1e25 <\/i><i>al-Hid\u0101ya of Im\u0101m <\/i><i>\u02bf<\/i><i>Abd al- <\/i><i>\u1e24<\/i><i>ay Lucknaw\u012b <\/i>1:212).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">5.<\/span> <\/strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Entering the masjid.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0It is permissible for a menstruating woman to enter a <i>mu<\/i><i>\u1e63<\/i><i>alla <\/i>(temporary place of prayer) or the place where \u02bf\u012ad prayer is performed as long as it is not in a <i>masjid. <\/i>The laws regarding the impermissibility of entering the <i>masjid <\/i>are not applicable to the prayer room which is not a Shar\u02bf\u012b Masjid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>6.<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Circumambulation (<i>\u1e6d<\/i><i>aw\u0101f<\/i>) of the Holy Ka\u02bfba.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>7.<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Sexual intercourse.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>8.<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Sexual enjoyment from the navel to below the knees of a menstruating woman.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Therefore, other than intimacy (without a covering) or looking at the above mentioned area, all other types of intimacy and sexual enjoyment are permissible.
