From all the Muslims existing only a few are chosen every year. The well-wishers, the people going for hajj and the people there in the Holy land constantly make Dua for a person to receive Hajj Mabroor. What exactly is Hajj mabroor? Ulema explain it is such a hajj that has three qualities:
(a) All the laws fulfilled and no Fidya or Damm required.
(b) It was not done for name and fame.
(c) It was not mixed with any sin.
If these conditions are fulfilled it is hoped that a person will have a Hajj Mabroor.
Ulema explain that there are signs, that the Haaji can gauge when he returns whether he has a Hajj Mabroor or not. They are also three in number.
(a) When he returns he doesn`t commit any sins.
(b) His life after hajj is better than before he went.
(c) His focus towards the hereafter is greater than before he went for Hajj.
The reward for an accepted hajj is being free from sins and the reward of Jannah. If these signs are not shown then a person needs to do Tauba and pray that Allah forgives him.
In the varying acts of worship there are Hikmat (wisdoms) in them, however it is not becoming of a believer to know the Hikmat then to do the actions.
However for Hajj there are a few wisdoms and lessons to learn:
(a) There are benefits to see with the eyes. For example the Kaba, Mount Safa and Marwa, the mountains and all the different places there connects a person directly to the Prophetic days and the Prophets of the past. The benefits connected to the hereafter are the greatest benefits.
(b) After all that Dua at Arafat it is unbecoming that a person upon returning, commits the very sin he was asking Allah to forgive. That standing should be as a barrier against the disobedience of Allah.
(c) It unites everybody despite race, nationality, colour, and social status. The greatness of the Muslims is visible to all. Therefore try to maintain it.
(d) In Hajj the power of Allah manifests itself in that there is no shortage of food ,water, and sacrificial animals despite the multitudes of people present. Allah`s ability to sustain manifests itself. Understand that Allah is the sustainer and provided everything for us here in this life, therefore work hard to make our hereafter matter.
(e) The varying groups that travel, the members form a bond- like a family. Upon returning those qualities of sharing and caring and selflessness that was displayed, let them remain.
(f) Hajj forces a person to be humble so therefore live a life of humility, this was the way of the Noble Messenger صلى الله عليه و سلم.
(g) In Hajj there are certain rituals that are connected to a woman, the wife of Prophet Ibrahim (alaihi salam), that everyone must do, therefore honour and respect women, especially your wife . She is the daughter of someone, just as if you would have daughter, so treat her like how you would want someone to treat your daughter.

(Summary of a lecture By Mufti Waseem Khan Hafidhahullah On the lessons of Hajj 23/11/2013)

Lessons from Hajj.
