Righteous men have penned
\nelegant words praising him
\nand boasted\u00a0 that they were elevated
\nby the mention of him
\nBut what\u00a0 can I say in praise of him?
\nYou told us to follow him
\nYet here I stand, veiled and shackled
\nA lowdown criminal,
\ntrembling beneath\u00a0 mountains of sin
\nhis true lovers cried and wept
\nBut what tears can I shed for him?
\nOnly those wept by crocodiles,
\ncheap knockoffs – unfit for the likes of him
\nI don\u2019t got nothing to give
\nMy pockets are turned out
\nNothing there,
\nonly air and scraps of lint
\nSo ashamed & afraid I withdraw,
\nTrembling
\nWhat love letter can I write to him?
\nMy pen and my tongue are dumbstruck
\nWhat can I say? What words of mine
\nAre fit for him?
\nBroken slaves, we press our faces in the dirt
\nHoping for \u201cMy Mercy outstrips My Wrath\u201d
\nPraying that there is space for us,
\nthough we are polluted with sin
\nMaybe if we play pretend
\nAnd imitate his lovers we will find a way in
