Some Fuqaha say that there is no specified age when it can be said that a woman is in her menopause, while others have stipulated a particular age. This group of scholars are then divided into two opinions; some say 50 years of age, while the majority say 55. Latter day Fuqahaa usually pass their fatwa on this last opinion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So if a lady was divorced after the age of 55 then her eddah (waiting period) would be counted by months and not menstrual cycles since she no longer experiences them.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b>A Misconception<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some students misunderstand from this menopause mas\u2019alah that if a woman sees a regular period after the age of 55 then it is not counted as haidh. However such a blanket ruling is incorrect.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The fuqaha give details concerning the blood that a woman sees after the age of 55.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">If she reaches 55 years of age while seeing regular cycles then she is not considered a woman in menopause. Therefore her normal cycles will still be counted as haidh.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On the other hand if her cycles had ended by 55 years of age and she no longer experienced haidh then the following rules will apply if she does see blood again:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">If the blood is not black or red then it will <b>not<\/b> be counted as haidh on condition that it was her habit to see red or black while menstruating.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">If the blood is black or red but it flows for less the 3 days then it will <strong>not<\/strong> be counted as haidh rather it will be considered istihaadha.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">If the blood is black or red and it flows for the days of haidh (3-10 days) then it will be haidh. This rule is applicable even if she was to see this cycle many years after 55.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Similarly, if she sees a discoloured blood, for instance brown and it was her habit to see this colour before the age of 55 it will be counted as haidh. This rule is applicable even if she was to see this cycle many years after 55.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the scenarios where the blood that came after 55 years of age was counted as haidh, all the laws of menstruation will apply. Therefore she will not be allowed to perform salah, enter the masjid, recite Quarn, touch it, fast, make tawaaf and have intercourse.
